Here is a really interesting 1886 Victorian silver mounted wood framed MIRROR.... Its a dark stained wood...

And has a really nice hinged easel stand at the back.. The frame is in 2 parts.. The back you will see a number of screws which hold it all together..... The easel back is shaped as well as having 2 LOVE HEART cut out shapes from the wood..

The frame is shaped too... Especially at the top centre, bottom centre and the bottom corners.... Just look at the side of the frame to see it does have a couple of small bits of wood missing and cracks within the wood too. Behind the hinge out stand part it has some green faux skin like material... It is paper I think. The mirror is in great condition..... And I have NOT cracked it yet...

So there is a bonus.... Well you will see the most INTERESTING and UNSUAL silver mounted mirror you are ever likely to see.....

The silver is attached to the stained with small steel pins - nails.. These have gone a little rusty. But as you can see its not solid.. Its not a solid sheet with a moulded design..

And when you get openwork items you tend to find they get bits broken off over the years etc... As far as I can see there is no damage to the silver at all.. The silver is complete all the way around.. The moulding is NOT flat either...

Its got good relief and depth on the corners & top centre heads especially. What is it all about.....

I do not know really... I have googled the figures...

See the wooden frame is shaped to accomodate the BAT WINGS of the HUMAN FACE top centre...... He is an angry - ugly looking chap.. With a goaty beard and tach as well as pronounced eyebrows and possibly horns too in the hair.... Then going to his left and right it has a similar design all the way around.. Just the HUMAN HEADS do vary...

So between the BATWINGED gent at the top it has FOLIAGE - SWIRLS - SWAGS - SCALLOP SHELLS in the design.. Then a FEMALE HEAD with long flowing hair at either side with a scallop shell below... These are both alike being MALE heads bearded and taches with possibly SWIRLY HORNS or it could be a hair design! They look like RAMS HORNS to me though.... Then moving down both sides.. Again the similar design with FOLIAGE - SWAGS - LEAVES... Then to another FEMALE head surrounded by foliage... Down to the centre of each side...

A little more intricate in the design here... A BEARDED MANS HEAD and LEAF like HAIR.. Then down onto another LADY head in the same design as the one above...

And more foliage and swags etc.. Then you are down to the bottom CORNERS... Here you will find MALE HEADS... Both bearded but have DIFFERANT hair... The left hand side one is very bushy and good hair.. The one on the right has a FLOWER band upon his forehead and differant hairstyle..

His FACE has differant features too.... This is deliberate if you ask me..

Then into the centre passing by another FEMALE HEAD with the scallop shell at the top to match the frame design... With flowers - foliage - leaves - swags etc in the design...

So now you are at the centre bottom.... See here it has Sheild shape which has been engraved with a CROWN and two intials below.. PC in an old font... The Crown - Coronet has 5 pearls in it.. Which has come from a RICH Aristocratic family.

More research is needed for this item I think to find out what the MEANING of the heads is all about. The silver hallmarks are found at the bottom Right hand corner on the BEARD of the gentleman... And Queen Victoria's bust as well.

At the right hand side.. It could do with an extra nail in it to keep it flatter to the frame really... I like to leave items in the condition I find them in from the deceased country house estates. The frame is OUTSTANDING if you are into this sort of item... Being 28cm wide x 40cm long x 2cm deep wood frame....

The mirror part is approx 17.5cm x 28cm... And the silver sides are about 4cm wide and the top centre part is 7cm long and the bottom part is 5cm....

If someone could enlighten me to what the HEADS mean around the frame I would be all ears! Please see close up pictures for more detail. The item(s) are shown next to an English 1 penny which is 20mm dia for scale. 2.5cm = 25mm = 1 inch. Once an item is the in the postal system any delays are out of my cont rol.
